Schools foundation plans adult spelling bee
CHAMPAIGN — Start studying your dictionary and make some flash cards: The Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation is hosting its inaugural Extreme Spelling Bee fundraiser Nov. 3.
The bee will have teams of three adults facing off to win the "Best of the Hive" trophy, as well as prizes for things like best name, best costume and most spirited. The winning team can also choose a school's teachers' lounge to receive a furniture makeover.
The spelling bee is scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Champaign Country Club, 1211 S. Prospect Ave., C.
The bee will follow Scripps-Howard Spelling Bee rules.
The schools foundation is recruiting teams for the spelling bee. Teams can represent workplaces, municipal employees, neighborhoods, PTA members, teachers or even groups of friends.
The team entry donation is $150 and all proceeds will support the work of the schools foundation, according to a news release.
Or, if you're not the competitive spelling type, you can be a Swarm Sponsor to help other teams who want to enter but are having trouble raising the entry fee.
Information about other sponsorship levels are available on the foundation's website, http://www.cuschoolsfoundation.org/extremespellingbee, as well. Team registrations are due Oct. 19.
Also, if you'd like to watch, spectator passes are $25, which will include passed appetizers. The event will also feature a cash bar. You can purchase the passes on the foundation's website, as well.
