Death of Urbana man believed to be a suicide

URBANA— Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said his office is treating the death of a man who died following a fall from a parking garage on Monday afternoon as a suicide.

According to a University of Illinois police report, a man was seen falling to the ground on the north side of a parking garage at 1201 Dorner Drive, U, at 3:06 p.m. Monday.

University of Illinois Deputy Police Chief Skip Frost said the man received substantial injuries and was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said that Brian Gulik, 26, of Urbana, was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m. Monday in Carle's emergency room.

Northrup said Mr. Gulik's death remains under investigation, but the death is believed to be a suicide.

No autopsy has been scheduled, but toxicology tests were performed, according to Northrup.
