Overnight shooting in Champaign sends one man to hospital
CHAMPAIGN – Police are looking for at least two men involved in an overnight shooting that sent one man to the hospital.
At about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, Champaign police received word that a 22-year-old male gunshot victim had arrived at Provena Covenant Medical Center. According to a police press release, his condition is unknown at this time.
Investigators determined that the man had been shot sometime around 2:30 a.m. near the Mobil Super Pantry at 1503 N. Neil St., C. According to the release, preliminary information leads police to believe that the shooting may have stemmed from a fight that took place inside the business a few moments prior.
A few moments after stepping outside, the man was shot by a second male, who was not involved in the initial confrontation.
Police are still investigating and are asking for help from the public.
