'HungerU' exhibit on UI campus one more day

URBANA — A touring exhibit sponsored by the Farm Journal Foundation will remain at the University of Illinois Tuesday before moving to Purdue University.

The interactive display — called "HungerU" — shows how hunger affects people around the world. Specifically, it details how various nations rate in terms of food accessibility, affordability, quality and safety.

The exhibit, supported by DuPont, also emphasizes "advanced agriculture" as the best tool for providing more food and ending hunger.

The mobile exhibit, which is part of the Farmers Feeding The World project, is visiting seven Midwest campuses. The 40-foot-trailer arrived on the UI campus Monday and is situated in the parking area east of Turner Hall and south of Madigan Lab. It is scheduled to be staffed from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Features include an interactive display of the Global Food Security Index (foodsecurityindex.eiu.com), a video on agriculture and signs touting the productivity of U.S. farmers.

One sign says the average American farmer feeds 155 people, up from 26 in 1960. It also says farmers produced more food in 2007 than in 1982, even though they farmed 63 million fewer acres.

Okay, I'm gonna jump in here and bear my rear to everyone's barbs.

"Advanced Agriculture", is that code for GMO's?  I don't know. But if it is then, Blammo!

It "seems" that these folks are up to good.

If not, sound off.

I don't have enough information to know.

Asparagus is exactly right.  Advanced agriculture is a euphemism for GMO.  


Like it or hate it, it seems to be here to stay.  It gives me the creeps.  I wonder how many new types of cancer we'll start seeing.  However, it may the only way to feed the world. 

By the way, I love asparagus, especially with cheese sauce.  :)
