Nursing home board OKs rate increase

URBANA — Private pay rates at the Champaign County Nursing Home will increase 5 percent on Dec. 1, the nursing home board of directors voted Monday.

The across-the-board rate hike is needed to make up for increases in expenses and for cuts in Medicaid funding, nursing home manager Scott Gima said.

The rate increase also will need to be approved by the Champaign County Board at its meeting Thursday night.

With the increase the rate for skilled nursing care will be $175.35 per day, for dementia care it will be $202.65 per day, and for advanced dementia care it will be $216.30 a day. There will be a $42 daily premium for a private suite.

Adult day services will be $74.55 per day or $49.35 for a half-day.

Board members leaned that the nursing home's census has continued to improve, increasing to an average of 203.6 in August, the highest this year and well above the 188.8 in August 2011.

The institution even reported a $409 profit in August, an improvement from losses of $66,000 in May, $47,000 in June and $23,000 in July.
