Urbana teen arrested for residential burglary

URBANA — An Urbana teen believed to be involved in a residential burglary in his own neighborhood was arrested Monday by Champaign County sheriff’s deputies.

Lt. Ed Ogle said Travon McGee, 18, who listed an address in the 2400 block of East Elm Street, was arrested late Monday morning after a court-ordered search of his home turned up a stolen handgun.

Ogle said investigators had developed information that McGee was involved in a residential burglary one day last week in the 2700 block of East Elm in which a handgun had been stolen.

He was charged Tuesday with a single count of residential burglary, the penalty for which is a mandatory prison term of between four and 15 years.

Ogle said McGee has adjudications as a juvenile.
