Champaign man faces drug charge

URBANA — A 39-year-old Champaign man who allegedly had cocaine intended for sale in his home has been criminally charged.

Tracin Porter, who listed an address in the 1300 block of Williamsburg Drive, was charged Thursday with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance after Champaign police found several rocks of suspected crack cocaine in his home.

Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said officers from the departments's narcotics unit had been investigating Porter and obtained a search warrant for his home.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday they went to his home to serve the warrant and saw him walking in the area. They detained him and searched the home.

Inside they found the suspected crack cocaine, a digital scale, drug packaging material and $670 in cash, Dunn said.

Porter was charged with a Class 1 felony, carrying penalties ranging from probation to four to 15 years upon conviction.
