Two injured in southern Champaign County collision

BROADLANDS — Two people were taken to an Urbana hospital Tuesday morning following a collision on a slick county road south of Broadlands.

Champaign County sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Mennenga said the accident happened at 9:40 a.m. on Champaign County Road 2500 E at 100 N, which is a mile south of Broadlands.

A pickup truck driven by Gary Vogel, 25, of Cowden, was driving east on 100 N and slid into the intersection with County Road 2500 E, when he tried to stop for the stop sign. He was struck by a car that Lana Ricketts, 60, of Broadlands, was driving south on 2500 E.

Both drivers were taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana where they were treated and released.

Vogel was issued a ticket for disobeying a stop sign.
