Bike-riding robbers attack man in UI's Orchard Downs

URBANA — University of Illinois police are seeking two attackers on bicycles who robbed a man at Orchard Downs about midnight Tuesday.

Police say the victim was walking in the 1900 block of South Orchard Street at midnight when he saw two people riding bicycles coming from the south.

The two approached him and one asked to borrow his cellphone. When he handed over his phone, he was hit from behind by the second bicyclist and then was hit several more times. He surrendered property to the attackers and they rode off.

UI police are investigating and ask witnesses or those with information to contact them at 333-1216, or by leaving anonymous information with Crimestoppers, either online at or by calling 217-373-TIPS or by texting "CCtip" plus the information to CRIMES (274637).
