Danville man injured in house fire

DANVILLE— A Danville man was airlifted to a Springfield hospital after he received burns in a house fire Thursday morning in Danville.

According to a Danville Fire Department report, firefighters were called to a single story house at 518 Commercial St. at about 8 a.m. Thursday.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke throughout the entire house.

A man inside the house, who was not identified by the fire department, was able to escape, but he sustained burns on his head and arms and had smoke inhalation, according to the report.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 8:15 a.m. and left the scene by 10 a.m.

While firefighters believe the fire started in the middle of the home, investigators from the Danville Fire Department were still investigating the cause of the fire on Thursday evening.

The report said the house sustained extensive damage. Firefighters said it was too early to give a dollar estimate of the damage.
