Teen charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of child
URBANA — A Champaign teen is due back in court in November after being charged Monday with sexually molesting a Rantoul boy.
Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said police were called to the emergency room at Carle Foundation Hospital early Sunday morning for a report of a young boy being treated for sexual molestation.
The child's mother told police she had left her son in the care of Jamare Martin, 17, who listed an address in the 1300 block of Champaign Street, Champaign, on Saturday night and when she returned to her Rantoul home early Sunday, her son was crying and told her Martin had hurt him.
The woman confronted Martin and he left the house. Officers found him later in the day in Rantoul and arrested him.
Beach said Martin gave police a statement. The child was interviewed by professionals at the Child Advocacy Center in Urbana.
Martin was charged Monday with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child alleging two different sex acts. The crime is a Class X felony carrying penalties ranging from six to 30 years in prison upon conviction.
Martin is being held in the county jail in lieu of $250,000 bond and is due back in court Nov. 20.
