Man accused of indecent solicitation of a child

URBANA — A homeless man who allegedly made an inappropriate sexual remark to a young boy has been criminally charged in Champaign County with indecent solicitation of a child.

Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Ed Ogle said Elbert Chase, 54, was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly suggested a sex act to the boy.

Ogle said the proposition occurred at the child's home in Ludlow Township where Chase, who knows the family, showed up late Monday night.

Ogle said a relative of the boy found Chase in bed with him.

A relative contacted police, who found Chase hours later and arrested him.

Chase was convicted in 2000 of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and received three years of probation.

Judge Richard Klaus set his bond at $100,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the boy. Chase is due back in court Nov. 20.

Indecent solicitation carries penalties ranging from probation to two to five years in prison upon conviction.
