Safety tips for Halloween

Tips for keeping your trick-or-treaters safe:

— Never send young children out alone.

— Walk with younger children to the door to receive their treats.

— Plan your route around familiar neighborhoods with well-lit streets.

— Kids should wear bright, flame-retardant costumes so they can easily seen in the dark.

— Likewise, add reflective tape to candy bags and costumes, so drivers can see your kids.

— Kids should not approach any vehicle unless a parent is with them.

— Basic pedestrian safety rules are still in effect.

— Look carefully at the candy; throw out unwrapped treats.

— Your kids should know their home phone number and address in case they get separated.
