Oakwood woman charged with burglary in St. Joseph
UPDATED 8:20 p.m.
ST. JOSEPH — An Oakwood woman who police say apparently intended to steal pain medication from a St. Joseph home was charged Friday with residential burglary.
Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Ed Ogle said a woman was in her home in the 1300 block of Dover Drive in St. Joseph about 12:40 a.m. Thursday when she heard a knock at her door.
Ogle said given the late hour, the woman chose not to answer, but then heard someone in the house.
Looking out her window, the woman recognized the vehicle in her driveway as belonging to Allyson Lutz, 35, of Oakwood, an acquaintance of her family.
After the intruder left, the woman called police and told them what had happened.
Ogle said deputies contacted Lutz later in the day and after learning that she apparently entered the home with the intent to steal pain medication, arrested her for residential burglary.
The offense is a felony punishable by a mandatory four to 15 years in prison upon conviction.
Lutz’ bond was set at $5,000. Her next court appearance was set for Dec. 19.
