LOXA — One person died and another person injured in a head-on collision in Coles County on Friday morning.

The name of the man who died isn't being released pending notification of his family, according to Coles County Coroner Ed Schniers.

According to a state police report, the man was driving a car east on Illinois 316 approaching Loxa Road at 11:46 a.m. Friday when the car moved into the westbound lane of traffic and into the path of a westbound truck driven by James C. Vaughn, 65, of Greenup.

Vaughn put on his brakes and moved onto the shoulder of the road, but he was unable to avoid a head-on collision with the card.

Vaughn was taken to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. No information on his condition was available on Friday.

Police said the drivers of both vehicles were wearing seat belts.

No tickets were issued.
