Lanesskog takes over as Champaign school board president
CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign school board has a new leader.
The school board at its Monday meeting chose Stig Lanesskog to serve as school board president after Sue Grey announced she'd no longer serve in that position. She'll remain on the school board.
Lanesskog will continue as president until after the April 2013 school board election, when the board will reorganize again. He was previously the school board's vice president.
The board chose Dave Tomlinson to serve in that position.
"It's an honor to help guide the board as we move forward," Lanesskog said during Monday's meeting.
Last week, the United Way of Champaign County Board of Directors announced Grey would be the organization's new president and CEO.
Grey thanked the other board members for their support.
"We got a lot done, but we still have a lot of work to do," Grey said.
The school board also approved its tax levy for next year.
It will ask for about $79.5 million. About $690,000 of that will be used for the first two payments on working cash bonds the school district issued last year.
Interim Business Manager Joe Davis said he expects the school district will receive a tax extension of about $78.8 million.
Last year, the school district asked for about $76.3 million but actually received about $75.3 million.
