Two arrested for burglaries in Savoy, southwest Champaign

Two men who police say may be responsible for several residential burglaries have been arrested in connection with five break-ins in Savoy and southwest Champaign.

Jermaine Johnson, 21, of Tolono, and Matthew R. Hall, 21, who gave an address in the 1800 block of West William Street, Champaign, were arrested Friday by investigators from the Champaign County sheriff's office, working with the Champaign Police Department.

Johnson was charged with residential burglary and his bond was set at $100,000.

Hall also was with residential burglary and his bond was set at $150,000.

The two were developed as suspects after five residential burglaries were reported over the past week to the sheriff's office.

The burglaries include two in Savoy — on Cloverleaf Court and Arbours Drive — as well as break-ins in Maynard Lake, Lincolnshire Fields and Fields East. Champaign police had several burglary reports in the same area, according to sheriff's Lt. Ed Ogle.

Among the items taken, according to Ogle, were laptop computers, jewelry and coins.

Police obtained arrest warrants for the two and recovered several items of evidence and several guns at their homes.

The investigation is ongoing and may include more arrests.
