Urbana man pleads innocent to burglary

URBANA— Police arrested an Urbana man for residential burglary after they reported finding items stolen from his neighbor’s home inside his own home.

Joseph Calvert, 46, who listed an address in the 800 block of East Park Street, pleaded innocent on Monday to charges of residential burglary and theft of property exceeding $500.

Judge Richard Klaus set Calvert’s bond at $30,000. Calvert’s next court appearance was set for Dec. 11.

According to a police report, Calvert had attended a party at a neighbor’s home also in the 800 block of East Park on Saturday evening.

Early Sunday, the neighbor who had hosted the party noticed that a computer, television and a Sony PlayStation had been taken from the home and reported the theft to police.

After police talked to other people who had been at the party, they knocked on Calvert’s door. Police said they found the stolen items and arrested him.

He must have been confused as to what kind of party it was.
