Teen charged with burglary at Urbana hospital

URBANA — A Collinsville teenager who allegedly was entering vehicles without permission at an Urbana hospital has been charged with burglary.

Austin T. Soule, 17, was charged as an adult in Champaign County Circuit Court on Tuesday with the felony offense following his arrest Sunday afternoon at Provena Covenant Medical Center.

Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan said a security officer at Covenant saw Soule trying the door handles to vehicles in the parking lot about 2:15 p.m.

As Soule was rummaging inside a pickup truck, the security officer confronted him. Soule initially claimed that the truck was his and produced a set of keys — which had apparently been left in the truck — and started the engine, Morgan said.

The skeptical security officer then asked Soule him why he was trying to get in other vehicles and he replied that he thought those were his truck.

The security officer contacted police, who arrested Soule.

He was told to be back in court Dec. 18. If convicted, Soule faces penalties ranging from probation to three to seven years in prison.
