Police investigate shots fired in Champaign, Urbana
Champaign and Urbana police are investigating reports of shots being fired at homes in north Champaign and Urbana within blocks of each other Wednesday morning.
Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan said the residents of the 1500 block of North Romine Street were home sleeping about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when they heard shots. It wasn't until they got up the next morning that they found bullet holes and broken glass.
Morgan said police recovered shell casings. No one was hurt as far as police know, Morgan said.
The shots came about the same time as others that were fired at a man in the 1200 block of Carver Drive in Champaign.
Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said a woman was inside her house when she heard a knock at the door. Suspecting it might be a male relative, she opened the door. He stood there but quickly took off running while ducking.
The woman said she saw a vehicle in front of her house with several occupants in it then saw a muzzle flash from a gun and heard rounds hitting her house.
Officers there also found shell casings. No one was apparently injured and police were unable to find anyone responsible for firing the shots, Dunn said.
