School board petitions available now in Danville

DANVILLE — People who are interested in serving on the Danville school board may pick up nominating petitions and other election documents from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Jackson Building, 516 N. Jackson St.

The documents are available in the superintendent's office on the first floor.

Four seats on the board will be open in the April 9 consolidated election. They are currently held by Randal Ashton, Dan Brown, Greg Hilleary and Frank Young.

The filing period for nominating petitions begins at 8 a.m. Monday and ends at 5 p.m. Dec. 24. Petitions must be filed with the board secretary at the Jackson Building.

Candidates' names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received in the secretaries' office. If more than one candidate files at the same time, a lottery will be held to determine name placement on the ballot.

To run, candidates must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years or older, a resident of Illinois and the Danville school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election.

They also must be a registered voter and registered to vote in general elections from a residence within the school district on the date of the election. They cannot be a school trustee or the school treasurer.
