MTD to display art on buses

URBANA — The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District is looking for area artists to provide work that would be displayed on the district's buses, via the new program MTD ART: Moving Pictures Through Your Neighborhood. The MTD is collaborating with 40 North 88 West, the local arts council, and Dixon Graphics on the project.

Artists may submit their artwork to 40 North (contact Kelly White at kwhite@40north.org for details).

A committee will select works twice a year. The four chosen will be posted in every MTD bus. A new set will be posted each quarter: Nov. 1, Feb. 1, May 1 and Aug. 1.

"MTD ART shows a commitment to showcasing the finest artwork that this community has to offer while providing artists a great opportunity to display their work and their talents," says a release from 40 North. "It shows that transportation can be more than getting the rider from one spot to another — with artwork, we can transport the mind!"
