Man sentenced in domestic incident

An Urbana man was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty in a domestic incident.

Tyrone Hart, 32, who listed an address in the 1100 block of Scottswood Drive, Urbana, pleaded guilty to domestic battery with a prior domestic battery conviction, admitting he punched and slapped his girlfriend in the head multiple times on Oct. 27 at her Pomona Drive home.

He was sentenced to two years of probation and 24 days in jail with credit for time served.

A more serious charge of home invasion was dismissed.

Kanis said Hart had prior convictions for delivery of a controlled substance, intimidation, driving under suspension and domestic battery.

So this guy has beaten up a woman before, he does it again, and he gets probation?  He has a controlled substance, intimidation, driving under suspension, and domestic battery as his priors and we think this guy is going to get better with probation?  What in the world are you prosecutors thinking?  And the court system?  How many times does a man have to beat a woman before it's a jailable offense?  Just let us know, so we can be prepared!
