Ho-ho-holiday parking in effect in Urbana

URBANA — The city has revived its annual holiday gift to drivers: free parking at meters in downtown Urbana and a portion of campus.

On-street parking meters and meters in several lots were bagged after Thanksgiving and will continue to be covered until New Year's Day. Each vehicle is allowed two hours of free parking per day at meters displaying the holiday bag.

The included parking lots are:

— Lot 1 at Race and Water streets

— Lot 2 on Water Street

— Lot 11 on Main Street

— Lot 16 outside the Cunningham Township Building on Green Street

— Lot 17 outside the Urbana Free Library

— Lot 22 on Vine Street

Included in the campus district where drivers will find bagged meters are the 700 block of South Goodwin Avenue, the 1100 block of West Oregon Street and the 900 block of West Nevada Street.

Not included in the holiday promotion are short-term red meters, the parking garage in downtown Urbana, U.S. Post Office lot 10B and any meter not displaying a holiday bag.

The people going to court, and their families will appreciate it.  Other than that.......    I am sure that the few small businesses will benefit also.
