Art Coop event will raise money for Humane Society
URBANA — The Art Coop in Lincoln Square Village will have its third annual $50 Art Show from Friday through Dec. 21 to benefit the Champaign County Humane Society.
The art supplies store asks all area artists to donate one or two pieces to the show. The work can be in any medium but should be small, original, two-dimensional and ready to hang. The works will be sold for $50 each, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Humane Society.
The Art Coop realizes the artworks are likely valued at more than $50. But in return for the donations, the Coop will give the donating artists "a fabulous opening night party" and a coupon for 25 percent off any one-time purchase in its store, including sale and specially priced items.
Artists are asked to drop off their pieces at the Coop on or before Tuesday. The grand opening and sale will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Art Coop gallery inside its store. The works will remain on view until Dec. 21; after that, people may pick up both sold and unsold work.
"We just didn't want people snatching work off the walls the night of the opening and leaving the gallery looking half naked," according to an email from the coop. "Also, this way, all artists who participate will get some nice exposure of their work since we are open every day."
