No one hurt in Champaign apartment fire

CHAMPAIGN -- No one was hurt, but officials are still trying to figure out what caused a fire to a Champaign apartment building on Saturday night.

Champaign Fire Capt. Glen Daniels said firefighters were dispatched at 10:34 p.m. to 712 W. Church St. for a report of "something burning on a wire outside of the house." About five minutes later, while they were on their way, they received information that the fire was more serious than the initial call.

When firefighters arrived, Daniels said, they found flames showing on the exterior siding on both the first and second floors of the building, and they found fire inside one of the apartments.

The fire was extinguished, and no one was injured, but the property damage is estimated at $20,000.
