Andersons completes purchase of grain, agronomy assets

CHAMPAIGN— The Andersons Inc. announced on Monday it has completed the purchase of most of the grain and agronomy assets of Green Plains Grain Co.

The Andersons, based in Maumee, Ohio, already has grain terminals in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Nebraska. Locally, it has grain handling and storage facilities in Champaign and Mansfield.

The purchase includes seven facilities in Iowa and five in Tennessee. The added facilities have a combined grain storage capacity of about 32 million bushels, which increases The Andersons Grain Group's storage capacity by nearly 30 percent.

In addition, two Iowa locations have 30,000 tons of combined fertilizer storage.

"We are significantly diversifying our grain and agronomy businesses by expanding into Iowa and Tennessee with the acquisition of these high quality assets," The Andersons Grain Group President Denny Addis said in a written release.

He said the acquisition adds a 130-member workforce to the company's grain and agronomy teams.

Green Plains Grain Co. is a subsidiary of Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc.
