Busey will donate to Salvation Army for social media followers

CHAMPAIGN — Busey Bank has launched a social media campaign to raise money for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle holiday drive.

The bank says it will donate $2 to the organization each time it receives a new like on Facebook or new follower on Twitter, and it will donate $1 for every Facebook share or Twitter retweet.

Busey says it will also donate $1 for each Facebook comment or Twitter reply sharing a favorite holiday memory or tradition. Include the #RedKettle hashtag.

The donations will be shared among three Salvation Army organizations in Illinois, in Champaign County, Decatur and Bloomington, and with one in Florida, Busey says.

The Salvation Army of Champaign County launched its Red Kettle Drive in mid-November and is hoping to raise $456,000 by Christmas Eve — 6 percent more than its goal last year.
