Man arrested for delivery of a controlled substance
URBANA— An Urbana man is scheduled to appear in court Friday following his arrest on a drug charge early Thursday morning.
Travon M. Pickens, 34, who listed an address in the 1400 block of West Bradley Avenue, Urbana, was arrested on a preliminary charge of delivery of a controlled substance.
According to a police report, police got a search warrant for a home at 1401 W. Bradley Avenue following the Urbana Police Department's street crimes unit's ongoing investigation of the sale of controlled substances in the area.
The METRO SWAT team then executed the search warrant at 5:48 a.m. Thursday.
Urbana police Lt. Richard Surles said officers found scales with suspected heroin and cocaine residue, packaging material and $482 in the home.
"You could see the suspected heroin and cocaine residue on the scales, but there wasn't enough to measure," Surles said.
Surles said police then arrested Pickens at the home and took him to the Champaign County Jail.
The METRO SWAT team includes officers from the Mahomet, Parkland College, Rantoul, University of Illinois and Urbana police departments and the Champaign County sheriff's office.
