Police looking for men who robbed man near campus

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are looking for two men who held up another man near the University of Illinois campus Saturday evening.

Sgt. Matt Crane said about 6:20 p.m., a 20-year-old man was leaving his apartment building near the corner of Third and White streets when two men ran up to him and demanded his money.

Crane said the victim believed that one of the two had a handgun.

“They just came up, took his wallet and immediately ran off. There was no injury,” Crane said.

The pair headed west in an alley south of White Street.

The victim was unable to give much of a description of the robbers other than that both appeared to be around 20. One was described as a large man in a red shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call Champaign police at 351-4545 or Crimestoppers at 373-8477.
