18-year-old starts sentence for burglary

URBANA — A Champaign teen turned himself in Monday to begin serving a prison sentence for residential burglary.

Linnell Blount Jr., 18, whose last known address was in the 100 block of Bellefontaine Street, pleaded guilty in November to the Sept. 28 residential burglary of a home in the 1600 block of Hedge Road in Champaign.

Old check registers and costume jewelry were stolen from the woman's home. She returned home to find a door kicked in and a screen removed and recognized Blount running from her home because she used to date his uncle.

Blount was sentenced to four years in prison with a recommendation that he get boot camp.

In return, another residential burglary and robbery case alleging Blount took cash from a man living on West Bradley Avenue in Champaign was dismissed.
