Felony dismissed against teen who pleads in stolen-car incident
URBANA — An Allerton man who admitted he got in a car that didn't belong to him has been sentenced to a year of conditional discharge.
Christopher Fry, 18, pleaded guilty Monday in Champaign County Circuit Court to a single misdemeanor count of criminal trespass to motor vehicle. He admitted that on Aug. 30, he entered a car belonging to an Urbana man.
That car had been reported stolen from Sidney earlier that day and was spotted by its owner heading north on Illinois 130. A Champaign County sheriff's deputy stopped the car in east Urbana and arrested Fry.
A more serious felony charge of possession of a stolen vehicle was dismissed. Fry was also fined $300 and ordered to perform 25 hours of public service.
