Sex offender sent to prison for not registering

URBANA — A convicted sex offender who failed to notify authorities of his whereabouts is headed to prison.

Michael Dorse, 29, who listed addresses in Urbana, Champaign and Detroit, was sentenced Tuesday to two years in prison after pleading guilty to failure to register as a sex offender.

He admitted that in July, he had failed to report weekly in person to the Champaign police department.

Assistant State's Attorney Troy Lozar said Dorse had been released from prison in June for a 2008 conviction for aggravated criminal sexual abuse. In July, Lozar said, Champaign police had contact with him and learned he hadn't registered as a sex offender.

In return for his plea, an unrelated misdemeanor assault and battery case was dismissed.

Lozar said besides the sex conviction, Dorse had others for delivery of a controlled substance, obstructing justice and mob action.
