One injured in accident on I-74 near Neil

CHAMPAIGN — An Oakwood woman was treated for injuries she received when the truck she was riding in rolled over on Interstate 74 near Champaign Saturday afternoon.

Illinois State Police at Pesotum said at 3:49 p.m., Steven Deatley, 35, of Tilton, was driving a pickup truck on the entrance ramp just east of Neil Street preparing to merge on to I-74 when he lost control of the truck.

The pickup began to spin and went across all the eastbound lanes, striking the concrete median barrier with the front passenger side twice. The truck rolled over and came to rest in the eastbound lanes on its drivers side.

Deatley and his three passengers, Joy Walsh, 32, of Oakwood, and two children, ages 11 and 12, were all wearing seat belts. Only Walsh had to be helped out of the truck by firefighters.

She was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital where she was treated and released. The others were not injured, police said.

Deatley was issued tickets for driving too fast for conditions and not having proof of insurance.

The accident slowed traffic on Neil Street and the interstate for about 45 minutes.
