UI police seeking armed robber

URBANA — University of Illinois police are looking for a gunman who robbed a man on campus Friday night.

UI Deputy Chief Skip Frost said about 8:10 p.m. a man was in parking lot B-21 in the 1000 block of West Springfield Avenue in Urbana behind Loomis Lab when another man approached.

"As he entered his vehicle, the offender opened the passenger door, pointed a gun at him, and demanded his cellphone," Frost said.

The man handed over his cellphone and the robber ran off.

Frost said the victim described the robber as a black man in his 20s, medium build, clean-shaven, with a crew cut. He was wearing a brown, baggy, waist-length coat.

Frost said police used a dog to follow the scent of the robber, but the dog lost the track in about the 1100 block of West Green Street.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call UI police at 333-1216 or Crimestoppers at 373-8477.
