Champaign set to approve new city manager

CHAMPAIGN — Assistant City Manager Dorothy David would become City Manager Dorothy David on March 30 if the city council this week approves a contract to make her Champaign's top administrative official.

The city announced last week that it had begun negotiating a contract with David to take over the day after current City Manager Steve Carter retires. City council members are scheduled to make a final decision on her contract during their meeting at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Champaign City Building, 102 N. Neil St.

David has spent 13 years as the city's neighborhood services director and five as assistant city manager, working directly under Carter. Before benefits, she would make a base salary of $173,000 annually as the city's chief administrator — about $5,000 less than Carter's current base salary.

Carter will have spent 28 years as Champaign's city manager when he retires next year. City council members have lauded his time in that position and have said David fulfills many of the qualities they were seeking as they looked to replace Carter.

She was chosen after the city began accepting applications only from internal candidates for a week. Council members had planned to open the position to non-city employees after that week, but gave themselves the option to suspend the process if they chose.

David was the lone internal applicant, and city officials ended their search after she applied.

Wait...what? City ended their search when they got ONE applicant, and she is someone who has worked for the corrupt scumbag she is replacing? THAT will turn out well.
