Autopsy scheduled for victim of shooting in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday in Urbana for a man who died as a result of a shooting on Champaign’s north side on Monday night.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said that Bobby White, 33, of Champaign died at 1:54 p.m. Tuesday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana as a result of injuries received in a shooting on Monday night.

Northrup said an inquest may be held at a later date.

Northrup said the death is being investigated by his office and the Champaign Police Department.

According to a police report, officers were called to the 200 block of Roper Street in Champaign at 7:22 p.m. to respond to a report of a shooting with multiple gunshot victims.

Police said that two men entered the home and fired shots at Mr. White and another man in his early 30s. Then the intruders fled.

Mr. White and the other victim were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Information on the condition of the other victim was not available on Tuesday night.

Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said that a third man inside the home at the time of the shooting was not injured.
