GCMS approves property tax levy, awards raises to administrators

GIBSON CITY — School board members approved the tax levy payable in 2013 with no changes from the tentative levy approved last month and gave raises and longer-term contracts to all full-time administrators.

As reported last month, the levy of $5.7 million is an increase of $368,717 over the amount levied in December 2011.

Superintendent Anthony Galindo's projections show an expected $8 million increase in the district's assessed valuation.

The district's three principals received 2.67 percent increases for salaries paid this school year: Elementary Principal Justin Kean ($77,002), Middle School Principal Jeremy Darnell ($83,751); and High School Principal Chris Garard ($80,000).

Assistant Principal Gene Everett and Dean of Students Mike Allen also both received 2.67 percent increases for one-year agreements. They will be paid $33,746 and $9,355, respectively, this year for their part-time positions.

Galindo received a four-year contract because he expects to retire after the 2015-16 school year. Galindo's current salary is $123,085 and he will receive raises of 4.5 percent, 4.5 percent, and 5 percent for the three succeeding years. By the end of his contract, Galindo's salary will be $141,131.
