Man steals, crashes car warming in driveway

URBANA — Urbana police are looking for a man who stole a car that had been warming unattended in a driveway Tuesday afternoon, then wrecked it.

Investigator Duane Maxey said about officers were called 4:35 p.m. to the 700 block of East Illinois Street where a car had hit a parked car.

Maxey said a neighbor saw the driver of the moving car get out, look at the damage to the car he hit, then take off running on foot.

About that time, the owner of the car that hit the parked car appeared, saying she had been warming her car up in her driveway about two blocks away when she came out and it was gone. Maxey said damage to her car was heavy.

The car thief was described as a black man, about 6 feet tall, 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans and a blue stocking cap.
