Restitution ordered in theft case

URBANA — A man who admitted stealing cash from a former employer has been ordered to make restitution.

Douglas K. Beckett, 41, for whom court records showed an address in the 200 block of East State Street in Mahomet, pleaded guilty Tuesday before Champaign County Judge Tom Difanis to theft over $500 and was sentenced to two years of probation.

Beckett admitted that on Nov. 12 he stole a bank bag from the Long John Silver's restaurant at 725 W. Champaign Ave., Rantoul.

Rantoul police said Beckett had worked there and was angry over having been fired that night. He took the bag and tossed it with the money still in it. Police were unable to find it.

Beckett was ordered to repay the restaurant $760.
