Oakwood schools improve security

OAKWOOD — Superintendent Karen Perry said school officials have been reflecting on security measures.

Oakwood schools have been conducting lockdown drills as well as all the disaster drills including fire and tornado. All of the doors leading into the schools are secure. She also recommends that teachers keep classroom doors locked and accessible only with a key.

"Our job is to keep the kids safe, but also to educate and make them feel welcome," said Perry, who added the district will be participating in a national moment of silence Friday in remembrance of the shootings in Newtown, Conn.
