Stevick Center holiday hours. The Stevick Center will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

Senior Moments: Down to the River — A Virtual Hike. 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 3 at Windsor of Savoy, 401 Burwash Ave., Savoy; and 7 to 8 p.m. Jan. 17 at Clark-Lindsey Village, 101 W. Windsor Road, U. Senior citizens and mobility-limited individuals are invited to experience the sights and sounds of a summertime hike along the river — without ever leaving your seat. Discover and explore local riparian flora and fauna. Free. Reservations required. Call 896-2455.

OLLI spring classes begin Jan. 28. Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, 1800 S. Oak St., C. Free parking. Spring semester membership, $90; another person in the same household can join for $70. Elder Abuse and Neglect. Anyone who suspects that an older person is being abused in any way is asked to contact a designated Elder Abuse provider (in this area, Family Service at 352-5100 or 359-4141 at night) or the Illinois Department on Aging's toll-free number, 800-252-8966 (voice and TDD). Peace Meal Nutrition Program provides daily hot lunches at 11:30 a.m. for a small donation and a one-day advance reservation at various sites in Urbana, Champaign, Rantoul, Sidney, Mahomet and Homer.

The program is for people age 60 or older. For reservations or more information, call 800-543-1770.

Home-delivered meal clients will receive two meals every Thursday and will not have delivery of meals on Friday. Meals will not be served at the Peace Meal sites on Fridays to those clients who typically attend the congregate sites. Reservations for Monday will need to be made with the site by noon Thursday.

Monday: Closed for Christmas holiday.

Tuesday: Closed for Christmas holiday.

Wednesday: Swiss beef patty, parsley potatoes, lima beans, fruit, wheat bread, butter or fortified margarine (served with each meal), milk (served with each meal).

Thursday: Chicken breast filet with gravy, ranch potatoes, seasoned green beans, rosy applesauce, bread, graham crackers.

Friday: No meals served. Two meals delivered Thursday.


Champaign-Urbana: Rides for grocery shopping in Champaign-Urbana city limits and rides for Champaign County residents to medical appointments can be arranged by contacting the Senior Resource Center of Family Service at 352-5100.

The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District provides senior citizens with a special card for free bus transportation in Champaign-Urbana and half-price taxi service. Call MTD at 384-8188 for more information.


The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a program of Family Service, offers retirees in Champaign, Douglas and Piatt counties the opportunity for meaningful service. For more opportunities, call RSVP at 359-6500.

Senior Transportation Program Drivers. Volunteers provide rides for seniors who are no longer able drive themselves. Drive to medical appointments and/or to the grocery store and help carry grocery bags if needed. Let us know what days or times of day you are available. Most rides are to and from the Champaign-Urbana area, but may extend throughout Champaign County. Mileage reimbursement is available. Community Service Center in Rantoul. The food pantry at the Community Service Center in Rantoul is always looking for volunteers to help load and unload groceries and help clients collect their food. The Center also houses other charitable organizations, all of which would be happy for more volunteers. Call 893-1530.
