Burglary reported at business in rural Douglas County

BOURBON TOWNSHIP — The Douglas County sheriff's office is investigating a burglary on Christmas Day west of Arcola.

According to a police report, officers were called to The Hunter's Shack, 429 E. County Road 200 N, Bourbon Township, at 12:04 a.m. Wednesday.

Douglas County Chief Deputy Peter Buckley said that one or more persons forced their way into the building between 3 and 11 p.m. Tuesday and stole cash from the cash register.

Witnesses told deputies that a dark-colored vehicle pulled into the parking lot about 11 p.m. with its headlights turned off.

The witnesses were not able to get close enough to get a license plate or see how many people were inside the vehicle.

As the vehicle drove away, the witnesses heard the business's burglar alarm going off.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Douglas County Crimestoppers at 1-800-280-8316.

Calls are anonymous. Any tips resulting in the arrest and prosecution of the burglar or burglars are eligible for a monetary reward, Buckley said.
