Christmas tree collection begins Dec. 31

CHAMPAIGN — City crews will be collecting Christmas trees and bringing them to the Landscape Recycling Center beginning Dec. 31 and continuing through Jan. 11.

Each residence is designated for two pickup days, free of charge, based on location. Residents may have their trees picked up by placing them within 4 feet from their curbs before 6 a.m. on their scheduled collection days.

The city asks that participants remove all foreign objects — like decorations, tree stands or plastic bags — before placing the trees near the curb. The trees are chipped into mulch at the recycling center, and any foreign objects could contaminate the mulch.

Residents can refer to the city's website for the collection schedule, at http://bit.ly/Y8fP3P.

Why are the other City's collections days left out of this article? What about Urbana and Danville?
