Winter Weather Advisory for large section of Illinois

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from noon Monday, New Year's Eve, until 6am Tuesday, New Year's Day. The counties included in the Advisory are: Champaign, Coles, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Macon, McLean, Moultrie, Piatt, Shelby, and Vermilion. Light snow will develop along and east of I-55 between 9am and noon Monday and spread eastward to the Indiana border by early afternoon. Light to occasionally moderate snow will fall throughout the afternoon into the early evening before gradually tapering off later Monday night.  Snowfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will be common with up to 3 inches in places.  Snow covered roadways could create hazardous driving conditions this afternoon into tonight.  Travelers should use caution and plan on extra time to arrive at destinations.  Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
