Police investigate a home invasion in Urbana

URBANA — Urbana police are looking for two men who entered an apartment in that city Friday evening and threatened a man with a gun who then chased them out while firing at them.

The incident happened in the 1300 block of East Harding Drive about 7 p.m. on Dec. 28.

Urbana police investigator Dave Smysor said a 22-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were in the kitchen making dinner when they heard a bang on the door followed by the door coming open.

The man came out of the kitchen and saw two masked men in the living room.

The shorter of the two intruders raised his hand to make it appear he had a gun. The resident grabbed his hand and began tussling with him. The taller of the intruders then began yelling, “Where is the money?” while pointing a silver handgun in the resident’s direction.

The resident grabbed that gun and wrestled with the taller intruder, who hit the man on the head and face several times with the gun, Smysor said.

Besides wounds to his head, he also had a bloody hand. Smysor said he sought medical treatment.

The victim told police he heard the intruder’s gun clicking but it did not fire.

Smysor said the intruders eventually ran from the apartment but the resident grabbed his girlfriend’s gun and chased after them, firing at the men as they ran. Smysor said police recovered four shell casings.

The intruders were described as black. One was 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a stocky build. The other was described as 6 feet 1 inch, about 200 pounds. Both were wearing black hooded sweatshirts and do-rags over their faces.

Anyone with information on this home invasion is asked to call Urbana police at 217-384-2320 or Crimestoppers at 217-373-8477.

Why was my post deleted? There was nothing wrong with my post. If our present gun laws

where enforced some of these crazies might not have access to firearms, Case in point,

Jason Woods murder/ suicide  was a convicted felon prohibited  from being anywhere near a firearm.

I, for one am glad that the victim's girlfriend had a gun and that her man was willing to fight for their protection.

Yes, gun laws should be enforced. Gun laws should not prohibit law abiding citizens from owning and using them though.

If these men would have entered my home they would have met the same opposition... as I am armed and so is my wife.
