Tractor damaged by fire

HOMER — Fire destroyed a tractor in a shed northwest of Homer Tuesday afternoon.

Champaign County sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Coile said Homer firefighters were called to a shed in the 1300 block of County Road 2575 E in South Homer Township just after 4 p.m.

They found a tractor inside a shed on fire. The fire was contained to the tractor and did not spread to the structure, Coile said.

Homer Fire Chief Don Happ reported that there was an electrical cord running to the implement to warm the engine block, which he suspects may have been the cause of the fire. The Ford tractor was valued at $1,500.

The property is owned by James Riggs of St. Joseph, Coile said.
