Man charged in child porn case

UPDATED 4:30 p.m. Friday

URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly had pornographic images of children on his home computer has been criminally charged.

State's Attorney Julia Rietz said she filed four counts of child pornography on Friday against David Dyal, 50, who listed an address in the 1800 block of Kirby Avenue.

Rietz said Dyal's girlfriend told Champaign police about the images. They obtained a search warrant Thursday for the computer, verified there were pornographic images of children on it, and arrested Dyal.

Rietz said the images are the kind commonly shared on Internet sites known to peddle child pornography as opposed to being pictures of any children he may have known.

On Friday Judge Richard Klaus set Dyal’s bond at $75,000 and scheduled Dyal’s next court appearance for March 5.

If convicted, Dyal faces penalties ranging from probation to three to seven years in prison.
