Events set for Champaign school registration

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign school district will be hosting school tours, open houses and community forums as the time for students to register approaches.

Kindergarten registration for all elementary schools is scheduled for March 1-28.

Tours of all the district's elementary schools are scheduled from 9-9:30 a.m. and 1:15-1:45 p.m. Wednesday and Jan. 16.

An evening open house and school tour is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 26 at all elementary schools.

Those who aren't able to attend an open house or tour should visit the school district's Family Information Center, 1103 N. Neil St., C, for assistance.

Here's the schedule for other events and dates related to registration:

— Community forum meetings are scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at Stratton Elementary, 902 N. Randolph St., C, 6 p.m. Feb. 5 at Carrie Busey Elementary, 304 Prairie Rose, Savoy, and 6 p.m. Feb. 19, at Temple Baptist Church, 1100 Broadmoor Drive, C. These information forums will allow parents and guardians to discuss the schools of choice registration process and give them a chance to talk with staff members who work at the various schools.

— Middle school open houses are scheduled for 6:30- 8 p.m. April 9, at Jefferson Middle School, 6:30- 8 p.m. April 10 at Franklin Middle School and 6:30- 8 p.m. April 11, at Edison Middle School.

— Registration for Champaign's magnet schools for kindergarten through fifth grades is also March 1-28, the same time as kindergarten registration.

— Sixth-grade registration (for current fifth-graders who attend Booker T. Washington and Stratton magnet schools) is scheduled for April 8-12.

— Elementary and middle school transfer requests, for first through eighth grades, can be made from May 1-31.
