Workshop scheduled on dyslexia

URBANA — Linking Educators and Parents, a dyslexia study group, is hosting a free workshop called, "The Emotional Impact of Dyslexia."

It's scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Urbana Free Library auditorium, 200 W. Green St.

To register, email Marilyn Kay at mfkay@sbcglobal.net or call 217-367-0398. It's open to parents, teachers and the public. The workshop is free.

CPDU credits are available for teachers through the regional office of education, but teachers are asked to include their full names and the name of their schools to request the credits.

During the presentation, Dr. Andrea Klein, a licensed child and adolescent clinical psychologist, will discuss the emotional struggles that children with dyslexia experience.

She'll especially discuss their common emotional reactions to the reading process, how it affects students' self-esteem and ways to help children manage and overcome difficult emotions. The workshop will include time for questions and answers.
